Particular days/events

On the 4th March a front moving south brought heavy snow for an hour or so giving a level cover of 2cm. Once the front had cleared southwards the sunny conditions and slightly higher temperatures (despite the northerly wind) led to a rapid thaw of the snow.

The middle of the month saw an early taste of summer with warm temperatures and prolonged spells of sunshine
17th Max 18.7°C and 10.3 hours of sunshine
18th Max 19.4°C and 9.6 hours of sunshine
19th Max 19.2°C and 11.2 hours of sunshine

Fog occurred on three mornings at 0900 on the 19th, 29th and 30th

Month as a whole

After a cold start the month ended up being warmer than the 1979-2000 long term average
The mean temperature for the weeks (AWS 15 minutes means) was as follows
Week 1.. 1.3°C
Week 2.. 4.8°C
Week 3.. 11.1°C
'Week' 4. 9.7°C
The change at mid month reflected a change from a northerly wind pattern to a more south-westerly one
