Particular days/events |
The heavy snow
in the afternoon and evening of Thursday 30th was accompanied by winds
gusting to 32mph, resulting in drifts to 75cm. Drifting snow is uncommon
here and last occurred on this scale in February 1991. Much disruption,
due to ice, on the local motorway (M11) on the 30th/31st with some vehicles
held up for over 12 hours. |
Month as a whole |
A rather mild and wet month despite some colder weather with snow. One notable feature was that sunshine hours were much higher than normal (165%). the maximum temperature of 15.6°C on the 27th was the highest for January since records began here in 1979. We have to go back to December 2001 for any month that was colder than the 1971-2000 average.
