A month of contrasts and extremes. The first
half of the month was very cold with easterly winds, some heavy snow and
severe frosts. The second half of the month saw much milder westerly winds
and temperatures recovering towards normal. At mid month the monthly temperature
anomaly was running at -6.0º below the 1981-2010 long term average.
By the end of the month this had recovered to -0.6º With a Tmin of
-8.4º and Tmax of 17.7º this was the most extreme February temperature
range on record (since 1979) Coldest February since 2010 and second coldest
since 1996. February has generally been a much more Spring-like month
here in the last 20 years or so. Driest and sunniest February since 2008
Precipitation so far this year is 61.0mm, only 58% normal for this period
